You sink or swim with your ability to please your customer and rely on them to build your business by referring their friends, associates and neighbors. I spent some twenty years in the corporate world, for much of it I was not particularly interested in spirituality. It was a world where profits reigned supreme, often with little respect for the rest of society.

Values which show a genuine concern for society as a whole, rather than individual gain tend to be spiritual in nature. When we understand that we are all part of the same spirit, including the earth and the air we breathe we start to take on a different attitude to life.
There is a universal law of cause and effect in operation which means that whatever we put out we get back. It is wise for us to be considerate in our business dealings or sooner or later we will suffer the consequences.

One by one those above me clashed with their superiors. As they left I put myself forward as a possible replacement. Because I had learnt every aspect of my own area I was able to fill these positions and use my creative mind to make useful changes.
Within two years I had risen to National Service Manager, set up a printed circuit board repair operation, and built a service contract business which earned several hundred thousand dollars per year. I had a highly motivated work force who were performing well.
My big break was when the company was taken over by the giant in the printing industry, Seligson & Clare. Because of my innovative track record I was offered a position of Operations Manager with 140 staff. This involved a move to Melbourne where I stayed for four years.
All of this would not have happened if I had not used my creative abilities and also learnt what was necessary to advance to higher levels of management. I don’t believe I was lucky, I made my own luck and so can you.

Reseller vs Affiliate - Which One Is For You?
Have not decide if becoming an affiliate is for you? Then how about becoming a reseller?
In this article, I will explain to you the similarities and differences between a reseller and an affiliate. You should read this if you are not yet familiar with either terms which are often used in the Internet Business and Marketing arena.
An affiliate is someone who earns a commission (variable) from selling other people’s products. The product can be either physical or digital. Digital products can vary from E-books, software, templates or even more.
In another term, an affiliate is also known as an associate. Quite simply, an affiliate acts very much as a referrer. There is no need for an affiliate to do any selling as the principal sales letter will do all the selling job to the prospects referred by the affiliate.
In other words, the affiliate does the job of marketing and pre-selling to his or her prospects.
Affiliates can source for products to promote and sell for at affiliate product directories such as www.refer-it.com, www.clickbank.com and www.associateprograms.com.
On the other hand, a reseller is someone who sells product(s) and keeps 100% of the profit to him or herself. The products are usually electronic in nature, making it possible for the copies to be resold without the original owner losing the enjoyment of having the product he or she purchased.
In order to become a reseller for a particular product, you must be sure that the product has resell rights for which without it, you are not allowed to resell it on the Internet.

This is in contrary to the affiliates as there is no joining fee in becoming an affiliate. This is probably why most affiliates are not as motivated as they have never invested any money at all in becoming one.
Becoming a reseller involves some risk as one has to invest in purchasing the product from the principal’s web site.
However, this should not be a problem as great principals usually provide a 90 day money back guarantee. If the reseller is unable to resell the product within the 90 days, the reseller can ask for a refund.
Both resellers and affiliates get their marketing materials from the principal web site for their marketing efforts. Affiliates are usually given an affiliate link to promote and ease the process of tracking down sales on the part of the principal.
Resellers, however, work independently. A reseller sets up his or her own page or web site with the given marketing materials (often called reseller packs) to start selling the product.
So which one is for you? If you prefer rewards over risk, becoming a reseller is probably the best choice for you. If you are risk-adverse, perhaps becoming an affiliate is a better option.

Are Affiliates Not Social?
This question could be extended by “and internet marketers in general”. The answer to that question was widely believed to be “Yes”.
The Misconception
People tend to think of an Affiliate as a tech savvy geek that spends day and night to find ways to promote a big merchant and make big bucks via the commission earned for the sales made by the referred customers; a person that is very protective about everything he does, that generates at least a few sales or leads. You probably also thought of the people that run the Affiliate Program for a Merchant, who are called Affiliate Managers or short AM’s, are snobby suits that try to use the legions of their affiliates to generate easy money for their employers.Socializing would almost be unthinkable if this is true. Who is going to socialize with his maid? Right?
This picture of affiliates and their counterpart on the merchant side seems to be a misconception that might be true only in some rare cases.
It did not took very long after affiliate programs became more and more popular that Affiliate Forums emerged, especially when Amazon.com launched their Affiliate Program (Amazon called it Associate Program) in 1996 which allowed instant signup and approval for anybody and his uncle in combination with the growing trend of creating personal home pages on free hosters like Geo Cities.
Early Communities, Forums
Forums like the AssociatePrograms.com Forum , RevBoard, ABestWeb, Affiliate Boards and Affiliate Marketing Forum at WebProWorld were frequented by affiliates using nick names or just the first name to exchange general information about programs, commissions and that sort of things.
Posting of Affiliate Site URL’s was a “don’t do it” rule although most forums did not specifically prohibited the posting of links, if related to the discussed topic. Some had the rule not to post somebody else’s Affiliate URL. The fear for copy cats and the potential loss of hard earned commissions was wide spread and sometimes also well founded. Anything that was giving hints to the identity of the affiliate and it’s website was avoided by most members in the public forum areas.
That affiliates are social could already be seen in the “off topic” or “midnight chat” sections of the Affiliate Marketing Forums, if such a category was available. Towards the end of last year sites started to emerge that supported and even encouraged social mingling between affiliates and also affiliate managers and networks.
The New Trend, Social Netwoks
At the end of December 2005 launched the social site ReturnOnAffiliate.com (short RoA). RoA is a social community site following the trend of general social sites like MySpace.com, but was created solely for People in the Affiliate Marketing Industry. If it would be correct, that the people in that industry, especially the affiliates, are not social, sites like RoA would vanish quickly because of lack of users to support it.
This is not the case, quite the opposite. RoA grew it’s member base within 3 month to over 2,000. Of course is a lot of the communication related to internet marketing, but the communication goes far beyond that.Personal Information and thoughts are shared in public message boards, special interest groups, blogs and mail. Every member has also his own blog, message board, book mark collection and can create freely new groups for others to join. Members that disguise their origin and blog their personal pages are the exception.
Another example for an Affiliate Marketing Community site is the Affiliate Summit 2006 East Social Network created for the attendees of the Affiliate Summit Conference which will be held in Florida on July 9-11 later this year.
Fazit
I am convinced, that this trend will continue in the years to come and have a major impact on the affiliate marketing industry. Connecting through social networks allows marketers to get to know each other much better and help with the creation of new professional and personal relationships.
Problems between merchants and affiliates will probably solved much quicker and easier without escalating as much as they used to in the past, because instead of Affiliate xxx having a problem with yyy, John has a problem with the Merchant Jane is working for.
If you ask yourself the question, who would you rather do business with, the one you don’t know or the one you can associate a face with and know personally through interactions on community sites? If the business reasons are not overwhelmingly leaning towards one of them, I would go with the one I know personally. Internet Affiliate Marketing 101 - It’s All About Relationships
So you’ve found the perfect affiliate program, you’ve signed up and they gave you a website….now what? “They” say that “all you have to do” is drive traffic to your site…but you don’t have a clue where to begin…
Never fear, Affiliate 101 is here…here’s a list of a few simple, free or inexpensive tasks you can accomplish today. Details follow, first just the list:
1. Send emails to friends and family;
2. Make new friends on the internet;
3. Print out and distribute posters, business cards, and/or postcards;
4. Write articles and post free ads.
First of all, don’t panic. You don’t have to do ALL of these, just whatever you feel comfortable with. But I do heartily suggest that you push the envelope a little on your comfort level…
Email Friends and Family: If you’re uncomfortable with contacting family members (they CAN be your sharpest critics) first scan the options, maybe one of the less obtrusive ones would work.
Be sure to write ONLY to friends. Anything else will be considered spam; any worthy company will drop you like a hot potato when they receive legitimate spam complaints.
Consider the friends and family you might write to and decide the best approach for each:
1. The Second Opinion Approach: save this for the hard nuts to crack, flatter them with “I’ve signed up for this opportunity and would really like to hear your opinion…”
2. The Beating Around the Bush Approach: “I’m making some extra money doing this biz, do you know anyone who might need a few extra dollars?”
3. The Direct Approach: for those close friends that you KNOW could use some financial miracles in their lives… you can lead with the business opportunity or with the products. I think it’s Avon that has a nice promo these days, “products you can buy and sell”. Simple and to the point…
4. The Chummy Letter Approach: just write a letter to a friend as you usually would and casually mention what you are doing, that it’s on “wait and see”, or already is making you a little money, or whatever.
5. The No-Mention Approach: just add a signature to all your emails that includes your website’s URL and your email address, maybe the name of your company. Subtle, let’s them explore if they want.
Getting to Know You…
How do you currently meet people on the internet? Game chat rooms, forums, opt-in email lists, Yahoo groups, messenger services…these are only a few ways to meet people. Many sites such as Yahoo, AOL, or ICQ let you create a profile including favorite websites, etc. While direct advertising is often frowned upon or prohibited, usually signatures at the bottom of posts is allowed. Many friendships formed in forums and chat rooms lead to email and website exchanges.
Stuffing Envelopes…
Printed fliers can be distributed everywhere you go, posted on your car…be creative. Include a business card or flier in every piece of mail you send including bills, on tables in restaurants, in phone booths, stick them in business books in the library. Make it fun! If you have mailing addresses rather than email addresses of anyone who might be interested, send them a flier or postcard.
Become a Famous Author
Anyone can write an article, everyone is good at something or has an experience that would help someone else out. The end of the free ride for email marketing looms on the
horizon.
The days of building up or buying a big email list and freely
using it to market and sell online are numbered like the
dinosaurs heading for an ice age cold snap.
The technical and time costs of dealing with email traffic
(primarily driven by rampant illegal spam) will soon break the
back of both Internet service providers (ISPs) and online email
services.
Major online players like AOL and MSN are currently wrestling
with two solutions to the problem, but I personally think the
almighty dollar will win out in the end.
The two solutions proposed to stem the tide of commercial spam
once and for all revolve around either “white listing” email
senders or charging a “toll” (typically .25-1 cent per email
message) to allow email through.
Currently, ISPs and email providers can either maintain their
own white lists, as in the case of AOL, or the can share one.
In the “old” days, companies could (and still do) subscribe to
“black lists” (like SpamHaus.org) which exclude email senders
based on reports of spamming and other factors.
Though the “black list” method rates the least accurate, it’s
currently the most popular simply because it requires the least
effort by companies trying to block spam.
However, as spammers get smarter, black listing has proven an
ineffective spam deterrent and ISPs must get proactive if they
hope to survive.
However, an inherent weakness in the “white list” system makes
charging for commercial email inevitable.
Since white listing requires effort on the part of the ISP or
email provider (they must ultimately pay real people to manage
the list), this means additional cost.
Unlike a relatively inexpensive subscription to a “black list
service” which gets implemented automatically by software
filters, white listing requires people to do work which carries
a real world cost.
Bottom line: most ISPs and email services will not be able to
create, maintain or implement a white list for very long without
charging.
Yet, consumers tired of the avalanche of spam are demanding
effective protection by those they pay for Internet and email
access.
Thus, any service hoping to survive long-term must adopt a
hybrid of both the white list and “toll booth” approaches.
This means not only evaluating the legitimacy of every
commercial email sender’s methods, but also charging them for
the email they send through a particular service or network.
It’s inevitable.
Now, the cry that immediately goes up at this point sounds like
this, “What about the “little guys” who can’t afford to pay the
fee or the family newsletters that aren’t commercial? What about
them?”
In a perfect world, their email would go through.
In the real world, their email will get lost even more
frequently in the future than it does now in the existing tangle
of email filters and inconsistent white and black listing.
The hope of survival and prosperity for the “little guy” lies
squarely in the hands of blogging and RSS feeds.
Since blogging and rss feeds enable consumers to subscribe
directly to information using an RSS “reader,” they completely
bypass the need to send email.
This eliminates the “middle man” of an email provider and puts
control over what content gets received squarely in the hands of
the consumer.
Though this technology has existed for several years now,
awareness by mainstream consumers of what RSS feeds are and how
to subscribe to them has been relatively slow.
The biggest contributor to the slow adoption in the mainstream
has been the absence of a universally distributed RSS “reader”
on every computer (similar to how Outlook or Outlook Express on
every Windows PC helped make email universally understood).
But that should also change shortly as more RSS readers get
included in Web browsers and email programs in the near future.
So while the “big guys” will push their messages to consumers by
paying what will surely amount to an ever- increasing “toll” to
get their emails through, the “little guys” will “pull”
consumers to them with subscriptions to blogs and RSS feeds.
Whether it happens this year, next year, or the year after -
make no mistake - the email “toll booth” is coming for
commercial emailers and newsletter publishers.
So, if you depend on sending email for your company’s profits,
either get ready, plan, and budget for the new tolls, or start
making arrangements to distribute your content via blogs and RSS
feeds, because the market will shortly force you to make a
choice.
